This week BikeLove talks to Barry Mason from Southwark Cyclists, a local campaigning group. Barry is a stalwart of the London Cycling Campaign (LCC) and heavily involved with Southwark Cyclists for many years. He has seen cycling in London develop from an activity of a few would-be revolutionaries to something nearing mainstream. I wanted to ask him how London made the cultural shift and what Sydney can learn.

This week on BikeLove I talk to Sue Abbott, a wonderful woman from Scone who is making headlines within the cycling community. She’s refusing to wear a bicycle helmet! And what’s more, she’s taking her no-helmet-fine to court.

Now anyone who has done some minimal exploration into the helmet debate knows it is not black or white issue. If you haven’t, but you have made up your mind have a read here and here…

Typically, it is compulsory helmet law is an issue which is very emotionally charged. But, there are two stark facts which I find interesting.

Australia is one of only a handful of countries that made the helmet compulsory.
The countries with lowest number of injuries (per km cycled) have not made helmets compulsory.

This month Cadel launches his autobiography, ‘Close to Flying’. In it he describes his journey to the world stage of cycling. Having just won the cycling World Championship he now gets to wear the revered rainbow jersey but he is a cyclist that cuts a controversial figure within the cycling scene.

This week I talk to Scott Drummond one of the co producers of this years VERY exciting, 2009 Bicycle Film Festival!!! The festival itself kicks off on Wednesday 11th November with a music gig at The Factory in Marrickville. Thursday nights sees art shows and the opening party.
