The festival itself kicks off on Wednesday 11th November with a music gig at The Factory in Marrickville. Thursday nights sees art shows and the opening party. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are film nights so get your tickets early! For more info click here
This week on BikeLove I get to speak to Rick Smith, creator of the very cool Yehuda Moon comic strip. Based in Ohio, Rick accurately captures the most engaging aspects of cycling culture via his cartoon charcters, Yehuda, Joe and Thistle. Together with their adventures and wardrobe of customers you’re able to dip into the charming world of the Kickstand cyclery!
This morning I joined Alexis on Monday Breakfast for the Random Tandem. We spoke to Rupert Guinness, a Sydney journalist, who has just brought out a new book ‘What a ride’. He covers the tour from 1987 when the first Aussie competed ‘Phil Anderson’! He shares wonderful anecdotes about his experience watching the tour and has the gift of perspective.
Sydney’s first Tweed run gets off to a stormin’ start. The best dressed ride I’ve been on for a while! Rain didn’t dampen spirits, merely added to the authenticity of the occasion. Lots of handlebar moustaches… nice!
This week I speak to Geoff Huntley about his most recent cycle touring trip to India on 18a UNICYCLE! One 36″wheel and 500kms of unforgiving roads below. He toured in a party of 6 (all unicyclists!) which included Australians, French and Canadians! Some lovely stories about how people reacted to him emerge.
This week BikeLove chats to Brettski… a courier who has served Sydney well, he has just notched up 25 years! He first began couriering in 1984! Lycra hadn’t yet become fashionable and fax machines were not even around!! He is 45 years but looks about 20 years younger, known as the ‘buns of steel’ he has a passing resemblance to Raul Alcala…
So this week on BikeLove we finally get to hear about RiderSpoke! 2SER have moved their studios from the top of the UTS tower to one of the terraces on Broadway. Server complications resulted in RiderSpoke not being broadcast last week. So enjoy!
Next Monday (9th March) is International Womens Day and BikeLove will be responding in kind!
This week I interview Pete McDonald, Australia’s current National Road Cycling Champion. He had a stunning, exciting victory where Michael Rogers, three times world champion, was left eating his dust. Just five years ago, Pete worked as a bicycle messenger in Sydney’s CBD… no wonder he got good at sprinting fast! The National Road Championships lasted a gruelling 4hr 10min 34sec, along a course of 163.2km at Buninyong, near Ballarat. His victories don’t stop there, since picking up the National champion jersey, Pete has won the Tour of Wellington! Who knows what victories lay next in store!
